FL 23-1 Meetings & Invitation

Flotilla 23-1 Commitment

We strive to provide convenient, timely & affordable access to the knowledge, information, education, training & resources required to help recreational boaters develop & maintain the skills needed to:

  • be knowledgeable, informed, responsible, confident, courteous & safe boaters

  • avoid boating related incidents, accidents, injuries or mishaps

  • be prepared to handle watercraft related emergency when they do occur

  • protect & preserve our waterways & the environment for future generations to enjoy

Maryland Rules & Regulations Require That:

Anyone born on or after July 1, 1972 must have in their possession a Certificate of Boating Safety Education while operating a vessel required to be "numbered" or "documented" on Maryland waters.

Anyone under 16 years old must have in their possession a Certificate of Boating Safety Education when operating a vessel equipped with a mechanical or electrical propulsion system (primary or secondary), unless they are being supervised by:

  1. a person 18 or older who has a Boating Safety Education Certificate accepted by MDDNR or

  2. an adult born prior to July 1, 1972

If a Certificate of Boating Safety Education cannot be produced on request by a law enforcement officer, a minimum fine of $25 for first offense & up to $500 for each additional offense can be imposed.

Children under 4 years old must wear a Lifejacket with additional safety features:

  1. STRAP that is secured between legs to fasten together front & back of Lifejacket

  2. INFLATABLE HEADREST or HIGH COLLAR to keep child's head above water

  3. WEB HANDLE to ensure readily accessibility of child from a vessel or dock

Children under 13 must wear U.S. Coast Guard approved lifejacket while underway on recreational vessel under 21 ft
