FL 23-1 Meetings & Invitation

Maryland Rules & Regulations:

Anyone born on or after July 1, 1972 must have in their possession a Certificate of Boating Safety Education while operating a vessel required to be "numbered" or "documented" (vessel equipped with a primary or secondary mechanical or electrical propulsion system) on Maryland waters, unless they are being supervised by:

  1. a person 18 or older who has a Boating Safety Education Certificate accepted by MDDNR or

  2. an adult born prior to July 1, 1972

If a Certificate of Boating Safety Education cannot be produced on request by a law enforcement officer, a minimum fine of $25 for first offense & up to $500 for each additional offense can be imposed.

Children under 13 must wear U.S. Coast Guard approved lifejacket while underway on recreational vessel under 21 feet.
   and
Children under 4 years old must wear a Lifejacket with additional safety features:

  1. STRAP that is secured between legs to fasten together front & back of Lifejacket

  2. INFLATABLE HEADREST or HIGH COLLAR to keep child's head above water

  3. WEB HANDLE to ensure readily accessibility of child from a vessel or dock
